About the Role
Role Overview
As a Mid-Level Frontend Engineer at Zeraki, you will play a key role in delivering fast, reliable, and elegant user experiences that power classrooms, administrators, parents, and learners across Africa. You are an established engineer capable of independently owning major product components, improving our UI/UX patterns, and ensuring our frontend systems scale alongside Zeraki’s rapidly growing user base.
This role is ideal for someone who cares deeply about performance, usability, and clean architecture — and who wants to build products that directly shape the future of education technology across the continent.
Scope & Impact
· Own critical frontend features end-to-end, from design integration to deployment.
· Influence our design system, component library, and frontend architecture.
· Support Zeraki’s expansion by ensuring our web applications remain fast, intuitive, and stable at scale.
· Elevate UI quality, performance benchmarks, and code review standards across the team.
Requirements: Mid-Level Frontend Engineer
Key Responsibilities
1. Frontend Engineering & System Design

Design, implement, and maintain high-quality frontend components using modern frameworks (React).

Lead segments of frontend projects with minimal supervision, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.

Refactor, optimize, and document code to improve performance, maintainability, and scalability.

Contribute to Zeraki’s design system, component standards, and accessibility best practices.

Participate in architectural planning and begin to specialize in key areas (e.g., state management, performance optimization, frontend tooling).
2. Production Operations & Quality Assurance

Support deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of frontend applications in production environments.

Ensure consistent performance across browsers and devices.

Build comprehensive testing suites (unit, integration, E2E) to maintain reliability throughout releases.
3. Productivity & Execution

Manage multiple tasks or small project streams simultaneously with minimal oversight.

Consistently deliver project segments that are aligned with specifications, timelines, and quality standards.

Identify bottlenecks early and propose practical solutions.
4. Problem Solving & Innovation

Independently troubleshoot complex frontend issues, from UI inconsistencies to performance bottlenecks.

Anticipate user experience challenges and propose proactive improvements.

Contribute innovative ideas to enhance product usability, speed, and visual polish.
5. Collaboration & Mentorship

Mentor junior engineers, offering guidance on debugging, UI implementation, and best practices.

Work closely with Product, Design, Backend, QA, and CX teams to deliver cohesive and intuitive user experiences.

Communicate clearly and constructively in design reviews, sprint planning, and technical discussions.
Performance Metrics

Successfully leads frontend project segments or feature groups.

Delivers features that meet initial specifications 95% of the time.

Maintains a 95% bug-resolution rate within agreed timelines.

Produces code with less than 5% kickback during reviews due to quality issues.

Demonstrates measurable improvements to UI performance, load speeds, or component reuse.
What We’re Looking For: Mid-Level Frontend Engineer
Experience & Skills

3–5+ years of professional experience in frontend engineering.
-
Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, modern JavaScript (ES6+), and CSS frameworks.

Experience with state management (Redux, Zustand, MobX, Recoil, etc.).

Solid understanding of frontend build tools, bundlers, and CI/CD pipelines.
-
Knowledge of API integration, authentication flows, and web security practices.
-
Ability to debug complex UI behaviors and optimize rendering performance.
